CCC: Season 3 - Colour 4

Bosham - Taken at the wrong time of day, and very overexposed.  I've been working on some high key stuff, so was not unhappy that I had overexposed. Time to play. All the usual adjustments in LR - a good crop, shadows, highlights etc - and because of the time of day, I need to add a little warmth to the image.

Final edit: Really pleased with the image - I think perhaps composition could be better. Printed on Permajet Papyrus Classic (300g) - the image looks like a watercolour.  It's printed very tiny - 6cm high - 23cm wide - I think the smallest image I have printed. I perhaps, if time had allowed, would have liked to purchase some A3 and gone for a bigger size in the mount we have to use - 40cm by 50cm.

Judges Comments: Well........ A simple photo with very limited tones. Artistic and creative. The paper works very well in this instance.  The photograph could very well have been painted. A good piece of artwork. Score: 9.5

Morning Light: Sheringham, this light on this morning was grey - with in the space of a ten minute window the light just shone out across the lake and hut. I have a series of about six images where you can see the light changing fast.  Small crop require and a tidy up - and I feel the need to play with this one a little more - as this is the final round, something different perhaps.

Final edit: Added a texture overlay to this one. Pleased with the result. Printed on Permajet Oyster.

Judges Comments: Exhibits artist textures, uniformly applied - giving it a canvas type look. This style exaggerates the colours within the image. The image was very Turneresque.  Liked the 'daring' composition of the image, with the main subject to the far left of the image - giving as much importance to the lamppost and bench - completely off the rule of third. Score: 10

A refreshing evening, and for the first time (I think) the judge getting a little excited about creative images along side technical skill. My first and only 10 this season in the advance colour prints - along side a 9.5. Happy with a good finish.  I have achieved my goal of an average of 8 and will therefore not go back into the intermediate group next season.

CCC: Season 3 - Mono 3

God, is it the end of the season yet.......

Third round of the mono prints.....

Three:  Taken at the coast with a long exposure.  Although I like this 'pale' colour of this image, I'm currently experimenting with some High Key images - so will convert to mono and clean the image up.

Three: Final Version - High Key experiment - over exposing on purpose.

Judges Comment: Looks likes three drunkards looking out to see, with hats on (??).  Minimalist image which works well. Liking the 'mist' that surrounds the image. Not everyone's cup of tea.
Score: 10

Centre Column: Sixth book from the bottom...... well actually fifth by the time I had mounted it - I like the image (which is why I took it). However, it is never going to be a ten - so I've done it my way.... turned into black and white - adjusted as usual. I am really entering this for a bit of a joke, and to highlight the frustrations of being judged!

The light has been lost a little on changing to black and white but you are still able to see it. Printed on to a metallic type paper - I think I may tip the judge over the edge this round!!  It really shouldn't get more than a 5.  I haven't had a five since the first season! Lets see....

Judges Comment: (Editor: The image could not been seen under the display light, the main hall lights had to be switched on, so the title was very quickly lost) A difficult image to view, you will want to view this one close up. Perhaps a little too much silver. (Editor: There was barely any comment on this image so nothing more to say - other than I just don't think she knew what to do with it.)
Score: 10

Well the score of 10 on the books really does sum it all up - it really should not have got a 10 at all.

CCC: Season 3 - PDI 4

Struggling now to find half decent images.... hope the judge likes landscapes....

Evening Calm - Hunstanton in Norfolk.  Unedited version, shot in RAW. Usual shadow and highlights need some work, I also feel there is a little too much sand and the tones need to be warmer. We won't mention the horizon!!

Evening Calm - Final Version. Not sure if the judge will get the cloud shape lines up with the sand shape but you can only try - I prefer the warmer feel to the image.

Judges Comments: Very calming, slow shutter speed works well, like the banding of colours through the image. Rock holds the eye. Score: 8.5

Misty Sunrise: Richmond - Pens Ponds - end of November.  The most beautiful morning.  Warmer tone needed, shadows and highlights - don't like the tree in the top left and unsure of the grasses in the fore ground. To clone out or not to clone out.....

Misty Sunrise: Final Version. Still not sure about those grasses......

Judges comments: Sense of calmness, not sure on the reeds. Can understand why they are there, bland corner otherwise, however not sure if they are actually needed. There was enough band of colour and water texture not to have them. Score: 7.5
