A little bit of Rainbow Heaven!

My brother has been staying a couple of times this past month - as he's doing some training nearby....and we seem to be slightly better than the local hotel!!

His wonderful wife has sent some goodies with him the last two visits - http://www.cakielady.co.uk/ - Monday, this week was these wonderful cupcakes.....don't you just love the rainbow ones, they even had bright glitter on them.

And I can assure you they tasted as good as they look!!  The colour on the sponge part was the best I've ever seen!!!

Last week I received a box of fruit scones and cheesy scones.

The good things with these is that I could try one and then pop the rest in the freezer for a rainy day!!  The one I tried was cheesy with wholemeal flour and wholegrain mustard.......yum yum yum!!!!

The rest of S's training is sadly in Leicester..... although I'm sorry .... always good to see him and catch up .... my bum and hips are delighted!!!!!!

A bit more rainbow - starting on a small project - trying to be more productive with my lunch hours - did this in one hour and I haven't had a lunch hour since!!!

And this was my bargain of the week from one of the local charity shops - rainbow tumblers for the BH for £1.50!

Ah..... happy days!!!!

Birthday Cushions

This post has been in my draft box for some time now...in fact from about March time, and I have been adding to it as I have progressed.  This is the story of AB's cushions for her 50th Birthday.  Now we have handed them over I can post my work( and of course the rest of QQ)!

CD had the idea to to produce some hand made cushions, and kindly allowed us to gate crash her idea.  She had already seen the fabric she was going to use....Purple being AB's all time favourite, in fact no other colour will do!  It was just down to us to choose our own thread and our own pattern.  Each member of the QQ was going to produce a cushion with the sixth one being a joint effort!

Pattern One, chosen and completed.......

Piping was added, which I have done before - a couple of times, so was okay with the next step.

Adding a zip was the next step - didn't really do well at this at all  - so not showing you!!!!! - Note to myself - must practise zip insertion on a cushion that is not important!  And then join together..... Ta Dah....

In a mad moment I volunteered to complete the stitching on the final cushion.  Metallic thread was used for this one - borrowed from HW.

Luckily for me CD had inserted the zip and EL had completed the piping so all I needed to do was join the bits.... Ta Dah....

And these are the finished cushions...

Wonderful times...

Sometimes the best days are completely unplanned.  Very late last night we decided to head down the coast ... well it would seem rude not to go with weather like this!!

D met up with C for a 'quick' pint Saturday night when we got there.. and arranged a BBQ for the following morning.  Our first of the season.  Heading round Sunday we of course had to go via the beach...

Everything had come out to play in the Sun.....

Even the BBQ......  Take note... this may be the only time you see it!!!!!!

L had to head off to work, I headed back to take the washing off the line and then we all met back at the local to keep L company while she served a few soft drinks to all the locals!!

It was very hard to drag ourselves away, from the sun, the sea, the local pub and our good friends!! But I had work in the morning.....it really is, on days like today, that I ache to live by the sea all the time!  One day.....

On a final note.. this is how we left the Kitchen very late Sunday night...

Come back next week to see how we find the Kitchen!!!

Oh the sunshine....

My last post wished whole heartily for sunshine.... and boy have we got some!  It has gone from wet, cold and downright miserable to dry, hot, and wonderful .... in what seems like 24 hours.

Did I mention it was hot!!

Saturday we had our monthly meet for QQ and we could not have booked our venue better if we had tried.  CD has volunteered to host this month - CD has the most amazing garden - it would be like our own private Chelsea Flower Show.  And an added bonus CD's husband does the best food - our very own Catering Manager for the day!

I had several jobs that needed completing this morning before heading out and enjoying myself,  but with Heart radio playing tribute music to Donna Summer and Robin Gibbs, real old time disco music,  I found myself dancing and signing along, and not really doing what I should be.....if only I could find my hairbrush and those pink leg warmers!

Car to be washed...

Cakes to be finished....

Water the garden......

Next doors bush/tree has given me another job to add to my list!!  As pretty as it is ....

It does leave a nice purple carpet....

Mid morning I headed off to QQ, and this is the garden that greeted me!

Please note the complete difference with my pond and CD's pond!!!!  I must try harder!!

Please note the complete difference with my garden and CD's garden!!!!  I must try harder!!

An excellent day, as always, we were missing EL, as she was unwell, otherwise all the girls were in fine spirits.  We had two belated birthdays to celebrate,  AB's 50th - we had attended A's 50th party back in February but had held off presenting her with her gifts .... mainly as we only started it 3 days before the party!!!  We had each made a hand quilted cushion in A's favourite colour... with the sixth one being a joint effort!

They all looked wonderful and were such a joy to produce....I have a feeling that a couple more sets may be produced for other birthdays!!  Luckily we have plenty of time to plan before the next big one!!

HS also celebrated her birthday a little while ago and gifts were presented...

The Quilting Grandma bag (given by AB) went down a storm.  I know HS was pleased we had reminded her that she was a Grandma!!

As always a wonderful day.....off home, and decision time on what's happening this evening and tomorrow!
