With a little help from Photoshop....

And then ....

And then Saturday evening..... what should I find.....

well it had to be done.....

And then just to show off....

And then just to make me a little more giddy what should I find Sunday morning....

Ta Dah: Memory Quilt

Well over a year ago now, my sister-in-law approached me with a request to produce a memory quilt for her Mum's 70th Birthday.  A memory quilt containing pictures of loved ones past and present, young and old.  I love memory quilts - such a great way to display family photo's in the open rather than in albums on the shelf.

I have given many quilts as gifts over the years - really because I enjoy the making of a quilt that will be with someone for the rest of their lives (and maybe if I've made it well enough) will go on to be passed from generation to generation.  However, only ever once before have I been 'commissioned' to produce a quilt by someone else for someone else.  The first, a small baby quilt was left for me to design and arrange the colour way.  This one, however, was to be produced in the recipients favourite colour of green, contain family photo's and I suggested names of the four children sewn into the quilting design.  I have found the process interesting but not necessarily something I would do again.  The quilt is now finished and the 'giver' has indicated her happiness and the final result - it's now a waiting game until May to see if the 'receiver' likes it as much!

The starting process of a memory quilt is of course to collect the family photo's you wish to appear, in this particular case I was completely in the hands of someone else for the production of photo - these then have to be fitted into the pattern.

Sewn together in strips and squares....

And then, of course, squares and strips into the quilt.

Ta Dah.......
