Photography: Week Nine (Exposure Compensation & HDR)

Exposure Compensation

Will adjust exposure without changing camera settings, eg. ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture

Does so by increasing and decreasing shutter speed

Should work in all camera modes apart from manual.

Exposure can be adjusted by pressing the AV +/- button and moving the shutter dial

- too bright (make the picture darker)
+ too dark (make the picture lighter)

very useful for 'sets' of pictures - eg. wedding - find your best setting on camera - and instead of continually changing camera throughout the day - just 'compensate' for moving light.

HDR - High Dynamic Range

Combining multiple picture (taken at different exposure levels) to achieve the final image - combined using Photoshop

Example: Water under bridge and sky - take normal picture and one either side - combine all three to make the 'perfect' picture.

Class Exercise:

P
ISO 800

Normal Exposure

-1 Exposure

-2 Exposure

+1 Exposure

+2 Exposure

Test - flipping heck - didn't see that one coming ........ two questions unable to answer - out of 22 not bad! One of which we have not covered - hence the work above! And then various exercises in class to see what we remember from the course.

Final week next week - and then a decision to be made.
