Time Line of Destruction: Tuesday 12th June
Neighbours rescued from houses in the morning and spent day at Arun Leisure.

Monday 11th June - around three ish - looking down the close.
Four hours later - houses start filling with water.
From our neighbours window - approx. the same time - three ish.

A Week of Devastation.

Just a very quick update of the weeks events. We have been flooded, along with all our neighbours. Some have had water feet high - although we are yet to view the property ourselves - we are about 2 inches high - just above the height of our skirting.
Insurance claim is well underway, and our friend Colin has striped the carpets and most of the flooring (seemed able to remove a lot quicker than we put down)!!! I have been informed that 'its not so bad' but I am of course well aware that the full extent of the water damage may not become apparent for several weeks.
I cannot believe the devastation it has caused to all the people we have spoke too. I cannot express how gutted we both are about the destruction of our home, although it would seem not as mush as some. And of course we were not rescued by a boat, staying in the local leisure centre or now trying to find alternative accommodation for three months. We have been the lucky ones - if anyone can have any luck in this situation!
Ps. The last email I sent to A, our builder, contained the words - thanks so much for the hard work - everything looks great - that's it for this year we have worked so hard - now we are going to enjoy the summer - and start again with the refurbishments next year. Oh how I laugh at those words now!!! And how foolish do I feel that I spent several hours cleaning the patio doors when we were last there!!!!!

Flood Alert, Beach House
Yesterday I received a very unexpected phone call from my neighbour at the beach house, expressing her concern on the volume of water within the Close.
They have had 48 hours of solid, heavy rain over the weekend and then a main pipe had burst in the Close. These factors put together, we were an inch or so from the bungalow flooding.
Very unexpected, and not good news for a Monday morning!
Our very good friends, who live just round the cornerswam walked round to see what damaged was being caused. Luckily no water had enter the bungalow (YET) other than in the lean to. They did what they could by unplugging everything and lifting some things off the floor. Where would we be without friends!!!
