RHS Wisley: Butterfly House

Back in August 2014 I visited the  NHM: Butterflies.  I enjoyed the morning so much that when the Butterflies were advertised at RHS: Wisley I jumped at the chance to visit with a friend.  The NHM display had given me the chance to get up close and personal with the insects - and very pleased with the results back then I felt another go with a light ring attached to my camera would enhance my images.

Light Ring

So with a light ring in my bag and a friend by my side, off we went early Sunday morning. With my camera round my neck ready for action  - I fell at the first hurdle - in chatting to the photographer in front of me in the que he had his camera tucked in his jumper to avoid condensation when he entered the glasshouse - D'oh never thought that one through - so for the first 10 minutes I could see nothing though the lens - but then......

I did feel at times I had not tried hard enough with my camera equipment.....

And it was only when a little one landed on my friends arm that she confessed she really didn't like the flutter-ness of the butterfly and really wasn't happy if they came near her face - on suggesting its was nice to do things out of ones comfort zone every now and again - was a glasshouse full of butterflies the right place to be spending a Sunday morning!! :)  I thankful for the good picture though!!

Love the red 'Pom Pom' tree....

Now I received my light ring Friday - so only had a very quick go at how it would 'enhance' my images but on the day I'm not sure that it did.  Some of these were taken with it attached - some when I had removed it.  I can't spot the difference. Need to practise some more ...... snails maybe next time....
